During rehearsals for a rock tour a long time ago, I once had an older and very smart and experienced lighting director tell me, "Black is a color, too."
I've never forgotten that, and it has served me well.

Listening--no, becoming lost in--Scriabin's White Mass at a concert many years ago, I was as profoundly moved by the silences as the notes. I think that was the first time I recognized the profound magic of silent beats in the score. Overwhelmingly penetrating of the soul.
