"A" for Vendetta
David Edelstein at New York Magazine - Mr. Edelstein liked V for Vendetta. I saw it yesterday afternoon, in a nearly empty theater. Had a rollicking good time. Good story. Flawed hero (real, in other words), hateable gummint villains, ending to cheer for. And, of course, the lovely Natalie Portman. Some gruesome fight scenes, so not suitable for most small children and others who cover their eyes at onscreen blood. [alisvoice]
With even retired Supreme Court justice (and Reagan appointee) Sandra Day O'Connor warning of the "beginnings" of a dictatorship, it's the perfect moment for the ridiculous but riotously enjoyable revolutionary comic-book thriller V for Vendetta--which will doubtless outrage conservatives and unnerve fuddy-duddys but liberate the rest of us with its magisterial irresponsibility.
