Million Marijuana March via Cannabis News - Million Marijuana March Update: look here for information about marches in other cities: over 100 this year! [cn]
Today's humor from The White Rose: A Lesson in Dissent: The story of three teenagers who in 1942 distributed leaflets at the University of Munich opposing the Nazis. They were discovered, convicted of treason, and beheaded. They are lauded in Germany to this day. I pray that it will not become necessary to emulate them here in America. I ordered the book, The White Rose, from Barnes & Noble. It is written by Inge Scholl, the sister of Sophie Scholl, who was one of the teenagers.
Angus Glashier at Latte.Weblogs.Com - Capitalism and War: good stuff from Angus today. Check it out. [latte]
Rep. Cynthia Thielen of Hawaii via Marijuana News - Drug Czar Seeks To Ban All Hemp Products: McCaffrey is now pushing for amendments to the Controlled Substances Act which will eliminate importation of hemp products, or at the very least make it illegal to import sterilized seed or oil (which are not even slightly psychoactive). Ms. Thielen is encouraging people to contact Bill Clinton and their congress critters. I am constantly amazed at how far some people will go to prevent the ingestion by other people of a vegetable. Nice pointer from Sean Hackbarth of The American Mind:
Bill @ EWF is more pessimistic about the state of our government that I am, but after this weeks events (Elian and Microsoft) I'm sympathetic. Read his site and see how another freedom-loving person is trying to deal with this oppression.End the War on Freedom: http://wws.editthispage.com/
Thanks, Sean.
I haven't really figured out what to do other than avoiding the primal response of killing leviathan's agents. I HAVE decided that I won't be voting in the November elections, and that I will advertise and support ideas that create a parallel, non-government, world. Also, I'll keep my children out of the government schools. I expect governments to use violence to repel these ideas. I expect them to kill and jail many of us. In the end, however, I expect government by force to go the way of the dodo. As I occasionally tell my son Christopher (and myself), "You are free. Noone can force you to do anything except fall down." Towards a world in which every human interaction is voluntary for all parties involved. in sha' allah.
Or maybe I'll just drop out of politics again and focus on writing code and spending time with my family. Naw...
I've gotta comment on Microsoft. Breaking them up would be a crime. It will do great damage to the computer industry. It sends the message that if you are successful, you will be destroyed. I agree that Microsoft has engaged in some questionable business practices, but they have pointed a gun at noone. If they continue with these practices, their business will eventually fail as companies and individuals move their commerce elsewhere. I'm sure that Linux causes Bill Gates to quake in his boots. It is a grave threat to his operating system business.
No monopoly can survive unless preserved by force. None of the anti-trust laws have ever been necessary. Using them against Standard Oil and AT&T was wrong. All these laws should be repealed.
Well, I didn't manage to stop reading Sierra Times for long, but I'm waching it in a different light. Looking for ideas for how to get peacefully out of our predicament. Please tell me if I sink into violence and hate again. Sometimes I don't notice.
Patricia Neill at Sierra Times - What Free Country Is That?: "Sure America is a free country--if Nazi Germany was free, if Stalin's Russia was free, or say, Castro's Cuba. The only difference between those countries and this is we do not yet have huge pictures of the Dictator all over the place. If Algore becomes president, I suspect that may change." Wierdo propaganda? Well, I don't think Bill Clinton has gone as far, yet, as Stalin, Hitler, or Castro. He's still gotta pretend that we're free. But Hitler was very popular early in his reign. He improved the economy. His speeches made people feel good. Drug users and dealers are to modern day America what the jews were to the nazis: someone to blame for our problems, a place to focus hate. Our legislators last year proposed mandatory death sentences for some drug "crimes". As I remember, Newt Gingrich was one of the authors of that abomination. The rule of law makes no sense if men can change the law any way they please. [sierra]
Ray Thomas at Sierra Times - I'm Afraid: "If their 'conditioning' and 'mind control' of the American people is so complete that they can get away with such an atrocity with the approval of a majority of the American people I don't think I want to live in this country any more -- but where can I go? There is no place to go so I guess I'll just have to stay here and try my best to make it better." [sierra]
Ok, I'm reading World Net Daily again, too. This addict needs his fix.
Alan Keyes at WorldNetDaily - That yearly act of civic servility: argues for replacing the income tax with a national sales tax. I agree with him that this would be a preferable form of slavery, but Harry Browne's idea is better: completely eliminate federal taxes on individuals and reduce the federal government budget to the couple hundred billion they already get from excise taxes and duties. Best of course would be to reduce the federal budget to zero and shut down the government. [wnd]
