The Best of Web 2.0
Vince Veneziani at Designtechnica - Web 2.0, Ajax applications that run in web pages without refreshing the whole page, is still pretty new, but there are a few good sites out there. Slashdot discussion [slashdot]
My favorite place mentioned in the article is Netvibes. You can play with it without logging in. If you create an account, it will be available from any supported web browser in the world. Email, feeds, notes, bookmarks, to-do list, weather, price watch, Flickr, Blogmarks, del.icio.us. Available in English, French, Spanish, Chinese(tw), Russian, Portuguese(br), Croatian, and Hindi. And they're still in beta.
No business model apparent yet. Currently, it's just your stuff, with no ads and no mention of Netvibes except in the small text links at the bottom of the content section.
I like it better than Microsoft's live.com, but they're not as far along, and don't appear to plan an open widget-authoring feature. The article didn't mention live.com. Hmmm...
Writeboard is also pretty neat. It gives you an easy way to collaborate on the editing of web documents. Here's a page I created. Password: liberty, email: billstclair at gmail dot com.
Writeboard is a product of 37signals, who provide number of other free and pay web-based services.
