SPECIAL EDITION:
Subject: Rick Stanley arrested today at gunpoint in Denver
Rick Stanley, Constitutional Activist, former U.S. Senate candidate, Enemy of the State, and self avowed extremist on the order of our forefathers of America, gave the following media release for your use:
This is a notification that Rick Stanley was arrested today, at gunpoint, by at least 30 Denver police, SWAT, and FBI agents. This occurred at approximately 12 pm Saturday 10/18/03. He is currently being held at Denver County Jail without bond and will probably be transferred to Thornton or AdamsCounty Jail within the next 24 hours. This is not a militia alert, because it does not meet the criteria for a militia action. Any supporters that feel they can help in Rick's case in some way should proceed on an individual basis, guided by their own conscience. I will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.

In case you haven't heard yet, a large SWAT team captured Rick today. He had left his compound to travel to Boulder to eat with friends that had come up from Austin Tx. to visit. They were in the car with him. He managed to get back to his compound when they crashed into his vehicle two separate times. Dozens of officers surrounded their vehicle with guns drawn. He chose to give up, out of concern over the three other passengers in the vehicle. A statement will be posted on his web-site and go out in the SCOOP alerts soon. As far as I know right now, they aren't calling for an armed Pact Alert, but rather for legal counsel from within the Pact.
From smith2004, don't know if it's true:
Even if the draft is reinstated, there is still one barrier that the gummint can't cross.
Once you're drafted and are ordered to report, you must still do so. You go through all of the processing and paper work. However, you still have to perform one last voluntary act before you can be inducted. It's the oath. If you don't take the oath, they can't take you. PERIOD!!!!! And they can't charge you with a crime for not taking the oath. The crime they charge you with is failing to register with the selective service or for evading the draft. Objecting to taking the oath is not evading the draft. Refusing is, but not objecting. NEVER REFUSE. OBJECT.
Also, while you are filling out the paperwork, every place that requires your signature, ask what the consequences are for not signing. They will tell you that you could be charged with some sort of offense. That's fine, above your signature, you put "under menace" because they are threatening to deprive you of your liberty for "NOT" performing an act.
Many of my associates and friends who have sons of draft age, show them how to object to taking the oath. After you have done the physical, and all of the paperwork then a group is going to be taken into a room and some Major or Lt. Colonel is going to come in to administer the oath. When instructed to step forward and raise your right hand, we have instructed our sons to come to attention, and do an about face away from the officer.
Of course that young man is going to catch a rash of shit for the next 72 hours while they run him through the mill and he executes his paperwork for leaving, but once the exit paperwork is done, he's free and he walks. So if you have young men who are about to come of age or are between 18 and 26, then I urge you to teach them now how to make that objection and prepare them for the 72 hour onslaught that they will face in an effort to break them down and convince them to "voluntarily" take the oath.
g'day

Claire Wolfe at Backwoods Home Magazine - Yes, You Can Work without a Social Security Number - If you're willing to work at it, you can eat without your beast number. I haven't tried this, yet. [claire]
"You can't work without a social security number."
Several generations of young Americans were told that big lie as they reached working age. Sadly, in the last few years that lie has been replaced by an even worse one: "You can't leave the hospital at birth without a social security number."
Nevertheless, it is and always has been a lie to say you must have an SSN to work.
I know. I'd have died of starvation years ago if it were true. So would untold numbers of other hardworking folks. Yes, Americans can work without a social security number. It's just not particularly easy.
Drug War Chronicle - Bill to Legalize Coca Prepared in Colombia - Good for them.
Colombian legislators have introduced a bill that would legalize the possession, cultivation, and consumption of coca, the Colombian media outlet Actualidad Etnica reported. First presented at last month's National Forum on Drug Policy, the proposed "Coca Law" is aimed specifically at protecting peasant, indigenous, and Afro-Colombian communities from persecution for growing a bush cultivated in the Andes for millennia. The bill would not legalize the cocaine traffic. "The growing of coca bushes and the use of coca leaf for [traditional religious] practices and for industrial, medicinal, or alimentary use will not be considered possession or use of drugs," says the text of the bill.
"The right of traditional licit uses of the coca plant is considered sacred under international and national norms that apply to Colombia," wrote the bill's authors. "It is necessary that this prerogative of taking advantage of the diverse virtues of this plant for food, medical, and industrial use that favors the indigenous communities be extended to all the population. It is necessary to have a law that -- maintaining the distinction between renewal natural resources of vegetal origin (with alkaloids) and the drugs processed from these plants -- legalizes for all the Colombian population the growing and consumption of coca."
