That's why they lock up people who smoke pot--when you smoke pot, you question authority. -- Ken Kesey

From [kaba]:

It's funny how a SEMI-automatic rifle in the hands of a Real American Man is called an "Assault Weapon" while the FULLY-automatic rifle in the hands of a soldier is called a "rifle." -- Chris Linstruth

I thought I had whipped this disease yesterday, but ended up back in bed by afternoon and again after breakfast this morning. Some of it is probably coffee withdrawal, but that alone has never put me down before.

In thinking about the fact that there are now laws forbidding weapons of any type on school property, I came up with the following slogan:

America's
weapons-free schools:
preparing fuel
for the ovens
of the coming
Amerikan holocaust.

Obviously, in the government schools, there should be mandatory daily rifle range training in seventh through twelfth grade (not that there should be any government schools, but that's another issue). Our kids should all leave high school as expert marksmen. Physical Education classes should include martial arts training, adding blades (dull-edged practice weapons in class, of course) once kids turn 16. Parents who want to opt out may send their kids to a private school that doesn't require this, assuming they can find one. I know, I'm dreaming. Somebody has to.

Ann Coulter at TownHall.com - Airports: The new Roman arena - apparently many airport "security" personnel are using their new-found power to veto your carry-ons as a short-cut to going to the mall for their Christmas shopping. One more reason to destroy the airline industry until they tell the f.a.a. to get lost.

The only safety precaution that will make the planes safer would be impenetrable cockpit doors and bomb checks for luggage -- two security measures airlines doggedly refuse to implement.

Vin Suprynowicz - Will banks hand over your money without a warrant? - Irwin Schiff continues to battle the i.r.s. Most recently Bank of America turned his money over to them on receipt of a notice of levy. He's suing the bank. If he wins, he'll turn right around and sue the i.r.s. for fraud. He may have even found a judge who will consider his case. God bless him. It's time we're rid of this criminal government enterprise for good.

"They (the IRS) should be charged with mail fraud; they leave off the back of the form those section of Section 6331 which would inform the recipient that that law applies only to federal employees, and then they put on provisions which don't apply. I would love to sue the federal government on the bank's behalf."

No date has yet been set for the deposition of IRS agent James "J.L." Gritis, who could not be reached for comment at his Oakey Drive office at noontime last Wednesday (he's away till the 28th.) Multiple attempts to reach an attorney who could explain the bank's position at the Jones Vargas law firm between Nov. 15 and 21 also proved unsuccessful.

Tom Segev at The New York Times - Learning From Israel and Its Mistakes BugMeNot - Mr. Segev arrived in New York City on September 10 for what he hoped was a one-semester break "from the tense atmosphere in Israel". Not! What's happenning now in America reminds him alot of Israel's response to terrorism. Guess what? Limiting civil liberties doesn't work. But you knew that. [cowlix]

The first responses to the attacks sounded quite familiar to me. America, it was said, was attacked not as a result of anything it had done but simply because of what it is. Globalization, cultural domination and support for oppressive regimes were not immediately considered plausible causes for the attacks. In the same way, many Israelis ignore the causes that lead Palestinians to wage a war of terror against them, choosing instead to argue that they have been attacked not for anything they have done but simply for who they are.

Project: Safe Skies - Anti-hijacking movement takes flight - Dan Detrich, a 50 year-old sales consultant, has started the Flight Watch Hijacking Resistance League, to train passengers to attack hijackers in the air using every potential weapon at hand. The pilots are behind him, but the flight attendants are wary. The lawyers are petrified. Mr. Detrich, I salute you. From the Defending the Airplane page:

The passenger Defenders have one very important strategic advantage over a team of hijackers, numerical superiority. If the passengers can act quickly and in mass, they have an excellent chance of overwhelming the hijackers before they have a chance to breach the cockpit and take control of the aircraft. This requires that passengers feel authorized to act and confident of support.

The strategy for defense is fairly straightforward. The flight crew should do what ever they can to immediately alert the passengers of the hijacking. Able-bodied volunteers should prepare themselves mentally to fight and to take the roll of Defenders.Communication among the Defenders should be encouraged while all others should remain calm and quiet. If opportunity allows, the largest and most aggressive Defenders should lead the attack. If an Air Marshal is on board, always follow his direction and the direction of the flight crew. All other Defenders should be prepared to follow closely behind. Prepare yourself with weapons and shields: ballpoint pens, large peaces of luggage, hard brief cases, blankets, or what ever is available. A food cart can also provide an effective ram and shield.

The objective of the lead Defenders is to move quickly and aggressively to disable and deflect any weapons possessed by the hijackers and then tackle or confine their movements. Backup Defenders should immediately follow to overwhelm, disarm and subdue each hijacker. Even if little planning is possible, immediate and massive passenger resistance is critical. The first objective of the hijackers is to gain control. Anarchy and confusion works in the passengers favor. Fight to kill.

The hijackers may be armed with knives or guns. Make no mistake, Defender injuries are likely. However, the number of life threatening injuries will be reduced by quick action. The passengers must not hesitate to attack, even if the hijackers threaten the life of a hostage. Taking a hostage and harming a passenger to create fear is one of the most likely first acts of the hijackers. This should inflame not deter your resistance. Remember, until the hijackers are subdued, they are free to assault one passenger after another and take control of the plane, which threatens the life of everyone aboard and people on the ground. No negotiation. Subdue the hijackers and free the hostages.

By Scott Bernard Nelson at The Boston Globe via MSN Finance News - New Federal Patriot Act Turns Retailers into Spies against Customers - the so-called "USA PATRIOT" act has hidden in it a requirement for businesses, all businesses, not just banks, to report anyone who spends more than $10,000 in cash, in one or more related purchases.
