On the Utility of Political Blogging

When I first started this blog, way back in 2000 (see the "History" section in the left column), I was mad about the war on some drugs. I figured that out in my essay The Lie of Cannabis Prohibition, except the entire war on some drugs is a big lie. All narcs should be hanged, for kidnapping, and the politicians who enabled them should also be hanged, for conspiracy to commit mass kidnapping. Done. Nothing more to discuss.

I moved fairly quickly to gun rights. Humans have the absolute right to defend their lives and property, and the lives and property of those they care about, using whatever tools they deem necessary. The Second Amendment to the US Constitution defends this right very well, by saying, "..., the right of the people, to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." That means no infringements of any kind. No background checks. No banned weapons. No prohibited persons, neither felon nor crazy person, no banned imports, nothing. Every one the American governments' 20,000 gun control laws, including the National Firearms Act, the Gun Control Act of 1968, the Brady Bill, the National Instant Check System, are inhuman on their face. Everyone who enforces them is guilty of a crime against humanity, and should be hanged. Anyone who enables, via legislation or bureaucratic rule-making, those who enforce them is guilty of a conspiracy to commit massive crime against humanity, and should be hanged. Done. Nothing more to discuss.

And then there are property rights. I own myself. I own whatever I create. I own whatever I peacefully acquire by discovery, or by trading or being gifted by others who rightfully own what they give to me. Absolutely. I don't owe anybody any kind of tax or duty on my property, and nobody may require me to get any kind of registration or permit to use my property. I may use my property in any way I desire, as long as I don't infringe on the rights of others. Done. Nothing more to discuss.

I suppose I should say something about speech. I may say or write whatever I want, other than credible threats of aggression. Done. Nothing more to discuss.

None of these rights is subject to any kind of vote. If I am the only one in the world's entire population who believes in them, a unanimous vote of everybody else does not suffice to relieve me of a single dime's worth of my property, or to take a single round of ammunition, or a single joint, or to silence a single word.

This leaves a couple of things to discuss. "..., as long as I don't infringe on the rights of others." "... other than credible threats of aggression." These require agreement with others about what exactly constitutes infringement, what constitutes a credible threat of aggression, what constitutes proper restitution, and what kind of processes we'll use to settle disputes. So I have something to blog about.

Of course, I'll also blog about anything I find interesting. If it ain't fun, why bother living?
