Botched Paramilitary Police Raids
Cato Institute - using Google Maps technology, Cato has made visible a database of botched S.W.A.T. raids. Color-coded and searchable, their database currently contains 289 incidents across the U.S. [clairefiles]
"If a widespread pattern of [knock-and-announce] violations were shown . . . there would be reason for grave concern."
--Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, in Hudson v. Michigan, June 15, 2006.
An eye opener
Radley's white paper is a real eye opener and a must have for anyone's e-library (or dead tree library). It just goes to show t hat we're not headed for a police state. We're there.
Sick-making
I read as many as I could but not continue as I was getting both mad and nauseated.
I'd love to send that to Balko but my local newsrag's website is a blowhole of suckness.
I'm hoping that now that this is up he will get many 1000's of new cases to add to the map.
There was a botched raid locally some years ago where a dude got shot in the leg by a deputy who fired through a window. Turns out the cops were at the wrong place...yada yada yada.
This would be a great thing for Clayton Cramer to do with his self-defense blog.

Radley Balko's Book
I didn't realize this yesterday, but the map accompanies Radley Balko's book, Overkill, The Rise of Paramilitary Police Raids in America, which you can download here, as PDF (free) or order on dead trees ($10, 98 pages). [kimdutoit]
