God save me from my friends. I can protect myself from my enemies. -- Marshal de Villares

From kaba:

People only have respect for the law when the law has respect for them. -- Constable John A. Gayder

russmo.com - Meeting of the Minds - What Powell said. What Sharon was thinking. Too gross to be funny.

We The People is holding their "Stand And Be Counted" gathering on the Mall in D.C. today at 1pm. End the income tax! [trt-ny]

Investigating Curious Evidence - Treasury Official To Senator: No Need for Answers - an IRS answer to a constituent letter forwarded to them by her senator. Summary: "Shut up and pay your taxes." [trt-ny]

Joel Miller at World Net Daily - Politicians: Read your Constitution! - lays out a weekly program for our congress critters of reading the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Not that reading the constitution would help most of them follow it, but hey, it's a start. [lew]

Similarly, if politicos bothered to read the Declaration, they'd see a number of things they do every day were offered by Thomas Jefferson and Co. as reasons for writing England the world's most famous Dear John letter...

...

If politicos took the Joel Miller Daily Constitutional Devotional Plan seriously, they would soon see they have gobs of extra time on their hands as their jobs will have shrunk considerably. Article 1, Section 8, alone is a real time saver for congressmen since it limits their job to something only a bit more important than a local school board.

Avidor at Minnesota Critical Mass - The Day the Car Critical Mass Was Busted - a little satire from a group who protested by riding their unregisterd bikes and had them stolen by the pigs. [picks]

erik at infoAnarchy - Google Does the Right Thing (Finally) - Google has still delisted some of the xenu.org pages, but if you do a search that would find them, you get a note telling you why they aren't there and pointing you to a Chilling Effects page containing the text of the complaint which, of course, includes the banned pages. Hehe. [wes]

In response to a complaint we received under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, we have removed 9 result(s) from this page. If you wish, you may read the DMCA complaint for these removed results.

Following the link gives you the Scientology letter, with the list of censored URLs in it. Now, let's think: What does a search engine do? It gives us a list of relevant URLs to any given query. With the linked letters, Scientology has involuntarily increased Google's usefulness for finding interesting Scientology URLs, because the ones in the letter are most likely especially interesting. And by acknowledging that the Xenu.net leaflet violates their copyright, they also implicitly claim that its content is accurate -- it's copied from them, after all.

A quite smart move on the part of Google that deserves our respect.

The Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression - The 2002 Jefferson Muzzles Go To ... - for behavior attacking our first amendment guaranteed right to free speech. The United States Department of Defense and Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, The New York City Police Department Intelligence Division's Threat Assessment Unit, Kettle Moraine (Wisconsin) School District, The Coalition of Brown University Student Groups Who Stole 4,000 copies of The Brown Daily Herald, The Administration of Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Dacula (Georgia) High School Principal Donald Nutt, The Kanawha County Board of Education (West Virginia) and Sissonville High School Principal Forest Mann, The Hamilton County (Indiana) Prosecutor's Office, Hecklers in the Audience at the December 2001 Commencement Ceremony at California State University-Sacramento.
