The Freeman's Constitution

Wolf DeVoon - The Freeman's Constitution - Back on 8/14, I linked to a story Mr. DeVoon wrote about this constitution. It was not yet finished at that time. He finished the final draft on 8/19. I haven't re-read it yet, but intend to.

mikeboyd at kuro5hin - U.N. To Reduce Press Freedom to Avoid Racism? - now that they've started the process of disarming the world, the commU.N.ists move on to censorship of the press. Figures. [kuro5hin]

The Libertarian Enterprise has a new issue, "Everybody's a Critic!". Articles I liked:

  • Letter from Angel Shamaya - a response to Tom Wright's suggestion last week that we count non-votes as "no" votes. Mr. Shamaya thinks this is a bad idea at present.
    Mr. Wright also said,
"So as far as I am concerned, the use of force is justified against almost anyone that gets a paycheck from any person or organization that initiates the use of force against others."
What are you waiting for? A list of targets? Scan the pro gun control votes of any congressional record in any of the fifty states and you'll find several ideal candidates. :-) And have someone take some video, willya? After watching the federal agents torch Mt. Carmel, I'd pay a premium to watch a virulent gun grabber's brains get splattered all over the sidewalk. Hell, I'd market your video for free and donate the proceeds to your orphans. Orphans? Yep. If you're going to cut the cake, you gotta be willing to do a Carl Drega, so make that last will and testament and have someone get that video to me. We'll put it up on our website. heh heh
  • Letter from John P. Slevin - a long-winded reply to William Stone III's A New Strategy, printed back in January. Likely contains some good advice about political campaigns, but I'm not qualified to judge.
  • Letter from William Stone III - Mr. Stone's response to Mr. Slevin.
A Libertarian Congressman will not be a legislator. He'll be a voice of priciple.

A Libertarian Congressmen will show up for votes and the rest of the time hold press conferences and talk. And talk. And talk.

When journalists ask him if he's in favor of cloning, he'll say, "It doesn't matter if I support it or not. There's no Constitutional authorization to steal money from Americans to pay for it."

When they ask if he's in favor of "common-sense gun laws," he'll say, "It doesn't matter if I support it or not. The Second Amendment is clear that every one of the 20,000 laws on the books is in violation of the Bill of Rights. Not only is anyone who votes for a Federal gun law in violation of his Oath of Office, they should be backing my bills to repeal all of the others. You know -- the bills that never even get into our Uconstitutional Committees ... ?"
  • Letter from William Jud - Why we must defeat H.R.701 the "Conservation And Reinvestment Act", CARA, "better known by its function, the rural Condemnation And Relocation Act." Now. Before the commU.N.ists eliminate the concept of private property. This bill has 239 cosponsors, was ordered on 25 July to be reported to the full house by the House Committee on Resources, and will likely come up for a vote by the full house in September.
  • Letter from Jim Davidson - a reminder that voting is evil. It supports the concept of state initiation of force. Spend your energy building freedom, not attempting to take over the state by voting. Provides a link to fuckthevote.org, a site containing good arguments for not voting, including Wendy McElroy's Why I Would Not Vote Against Hitler (she would not vote against him, but she'd happily put a bullet through his head).
  • The Amateur Critic by L. Neil Smith - L. Neil responds to some criticism of Hope. If you haven't read this jewel by Aaron Zelman and Mr. Smith, drop everything and order it now.
Like many suffering under the weight of patriot mythology, Kyle doesn't care for or understand the 14th Amendment, written for the purpose of guaranteeing Second Amendment rights to blacks in states illegally interfering with them. He's even more infuriated that we quote from the body of the Constitution, Article 6, Section 2, which reads:
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
It's clear the Founders intended to put limits on the power of states. (I repeat, I'm not a "states' rights" guy; tyranny is tyranny no matter who practices it, and as Heinlein observed, the most vicious tyranny is a local school board. Groups, as such, have no rights; only individuals do. Is that anarchistic enough for you, Kyle?) Together with the Ninth Amendment, it becomes even clearer what the limits are. States may not violate the rights of individuals as spoken of in the Bill of Rights. Fourteen underlines that, which means Alex is acting morally in libertarian terms, and wholly within his legal authority. It's just that no President has ever had incentive to do so before.
  • The Scientific Case Against Evolution by Robert Locke - most interesting. I hadn't heard this before.
The first big problem with evolution is that the fossil record increasingly does not, honestly viewed, support it, a fact that famous Prof. Steven Jay Gould of Harvard has described as "the trade secret of paleontology." Evolutionary theory claims that there once existed a whole series of successive forms of the various organisms alive today. These supposedly changed by infinitesimal amounts with each generation as they evolved into the present varieties, so the fossil record should show these gradual changes. But it doesn't. Instead, it shows the sudden emergence of new species out of nowhere, fully complete with all their characteristics and not changing over time. It is almost entirely devoid of forms that can plausibly be identified as intermediates between older and newer ones. This is popularly known as the "missing link" problem, and it is massively systematic across different species and time periods. Worse, this problem is getting worse, not better, as more fossils are discovered, as the new fossils just resemble those already found and don't fill in the gaps. In Darwin's day, it was easy to claim that the fossils were there but had not been discovered. Problem is, we now have hundreds of thousands of well-catalogued fossils, from all continents and geologic eras, and we still haven't found these intermediate forms.

Ron Paul's Texas Straight Talk - Congressional Spending Threatens your Retirement - GW's tax cut is in no way responsible for the disappearance of the federal budget surplus. It's the economic downturn that started at the end of Klinton's reign coupled with ridiculous spending by the same congress critters who are now criticizing Mr. Bush. Dr. Paul is right that Congress should not spend social security money on anything else, but he neglects to mention that social security should be scrapped and every penny of the 14% of our wages that are stolen to support it should be returned to us to individually invest or spend as we see fit.

Jeff Elkins at LewRockwell.com - The Southern Schumer - Liddy Dole, in line to "replace" Jesse Helms as senator from North Carolina, is as anti-gun as New York's Chucky Schumer. [lew]

Elizabeth Dole is nothing more than a Southern Schumer; despite her change of party affiliation as a wedding gift for her then-powerful husband, she's a false conservative who's statist through and through. Her quasi-selection to "represent" the federal prefect of North Carolina tells us much about both the Republican Party and the Bush Administration and their true positions on freedom for Americans.

Gore Vidal - The Meaning of Timothy McVeigh - a long piece from the September 2001 issue of Vanity Fair. Concludes, as you already know if you've read anything about it, that McVeigh was definitely not alone in carrying out the Oklahoma City bombing. He may have been no more than a "useful idiot".
