The Emperor of the Plant Kingdom
The judges have become doctors. Help.
Doonsbury - 5/21/2001 - Gary Trudeau hits gw hard with this one. Hoohoohoohoo.
I wrote the following letter to the editor of the TU:
Hemp: the Emperor of the Plant Kingdom
My compliments on your May 20 editorial reprimanding the Supreme Court on their medical marijuana ruling. Marijuana is the best medicine currently known for controlling the nausea caused by AIDS drugs and chemotherapy. It and its non-psychoactive cousin, industrial hemp, have a host of other uses: food, medicine, paper, fabric, building material, fuel, and the list goes on (direct your web browser to www.electricemperor.com/eecdrom). Forbidding those uses is both stupid and criminal. But the bottom line is this. My body is my property. The state has no business saying anything whatsoever about what I may or may not ingest.

Ward Harkavy at The Village Voice - Watts Up: More New Yorkers Getting Zapped by Court-Ordered Electroshock - the Empire of New York has been frying lots of people's brains recently. I can't find any words strong enough to express my disgust with this. [unknown]
Shock therapy is like "kicking a television to make it work," says [Anne] Krauss. "It's like blaming the hardware for a software problem."
No one yet knows how many New Yorkers have had their brains rebooted.
