They Walk Among Us
L. Neil Smith at Random - Neil's new book, Sweeter then Wine, recently became available at Amazon, on dead trees and for Kindle. Short, but a good read. In this essay, Neil reminds us that there are real-life vampires, inhabiting the District of Criminals and your local state house. He promises an idea to "blunt the vampire’s vile attacks on us" in Sundays edition of The Libertarian Enterprise.
And what is the very essence of human life as we understand it? It is freedom. It is independence. It is individual dignity, integrity, and sovereignty. The parasites who steal it from you in the night — or in the darkened halls of Congress and state lefilatures — are those whom you have foolishly, self-sacrificially, elected to political office, those whose every thought and action is directed toward seizing total and unanswerable control over each of us until they have made us into nothing more than their slaves, and, more importantly, their cattle.
Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy is just such a creature, who began her parasitic, predatory career drinking her fill of the blood of a murdered ex-husband, and who, with unhuman patience, awaits each atrocity committed by madmen or criminals, each incident lke Columbine or Tucson, to drink again, and bathe in the blood of ravaged innocence. Her insane political machinations are, more often than not, the reason for the deaths of those she wishes to render harmless, helpless in the fanged face of utter and unspeakable evil.
On the Origins of Abstract Ownership of the Home Planet
It's a shame that libertarians, some of the few people to sense something wrong in our culture, mostly swallow the self-serving account of how abstract ownership of the surface and resources of the earth came about. Mainly, libertarianism is a defense of domination, sugar-coated.
Economist J.W. Smith has it nailed. He writes,
Summary of my one-hour-presentation at the UN General Assembly Hall, 03/05/2009, United Nations International Students Conference, UNIS-UN:
(a) Visualize a fertile valley 10,000 years ago with fruits, nuts and vegetables growing wild along with lush thatch for building shelters. The new settlers have only to pick their food, build their thatch homes, and, once that home is built, relax most the day.
(b) A selfish, greedy, cunning cabal form and each lay claim to a part of the best land. They make a pact with toughies that they will share the spoils if they protect their unequal, and unjust, “property rights.” The meek, mild, and law abiding now have to share the food they pick with those “greedy owners,” have to build their houses, and provide any and all other services.
(c) The cunning go on to claim their unearned wealth on through history, and those are the property rights laws, as applied to nature’s resources and technologies, denying others their rightful share of what nature offers to all for free, that are still in place today.
(d) The primary cause of poverty in the middle of plenty has been uncovered. The Sheriff and the courts are today enforcing the very same unequal rights the cunning laid claim to 10,000 years ago.
