The Push and the Kick
Anarchangel - a discussion of recoil. Push and kick are its two components. Energy and velocity. Stock design and gun weight both make a big difference in perceived recoil. And different shooters perceive it very differently. Personally, I find it refreshing to shoot Remington magnum 00 buck (their "bear load") through my pistol grip Winchester 1300 shotgun. But I don't shoot many rounds in a sitting. Standard slugs are a breeze, though, and I always wish I'd brought more of them along. I don't own any magnum rifles, though, so my bolt-action .30-06 is the worst recoil I deal with, after the shotgun rounds. [publicola]
