Shots Fired in Robbery in Town

Chuck Shotton at Leesburg Talk - a hyper-local blog reports on a gunman robbing a jewelry store, shooting at locals, and taking hostages. His conclusion: [script]

This is the *last straw* for me on the issue of police in town. And I believe Kristen Umstattd's utter lack of understanding on the issue is the final foot of rope she needs to pay out.

I commented:

You're acting as if more police presence is the only possible response. It isn't. It's not even the best response. Crazy people like this guy don't care how many police are around. They will care, however, when a citizen shoots back.

Open carry is legal in Virginia ( it's a "gold star" open carry state: http://opencarry.com/va.html ), as is concealed carry with a permit. Get thee to a gun store, training, and regular trips to the range to practice. Carry always and everywhere. Protect yourself.

There WERE armed citizens nearby

Turns out, according to Mr. Shotton's reply to my comment, that there were armed citizens nearby. They decided that shooting wasn't the best way to handle the situation. So far, nobody has been hurt. Hopefully, it will stay that way.
