New Microchips Shun Transistors

John Hudson at Wired - coming soon to a computer near you: magnetic patterning, chips that have no wires and do their computing with a grid of magnetic "islands". Bottom line according to the article: lower power, instant turn-on times due to memory persistence, the continuation of Moore's law of exponential growth of computer power.

But no estimate was given in the article of when this technology would be commercialized.
