Mexico president refuses to sign drug bill

Associated Press via USA Today - looks like the U.S. has strong-armed Vincente Fox into sending back to Congress a bill that would have decriminalized possession of small amounts of drugs. What a bummer, man. [clairefiles]

"U.S. officials ... urged Mexican representatives to review the legislation urgently, to avoid the perception that drug use would be tolerated in Mexico, and to prevent drug tourism," U.S. Embassy spokeswoman Judith Bryan said.

There are concerns the measure could increase drug use by border visitors and U.S. students who flock to Mexico on vacation.

Bryan said the U.S. government wants Mexico "to ensure that all persons found in possession of any quantity of illegal drugs be prosecuted or be sent into mandatory drug treatment programs."

Well this is quite complicated, this drug problem is becoming a more political problem. I think we need to think clear and do what's best for both parts. Drugs are a serious matter...

I usually don't allow commercial comments

I usually don't allow commercial comments, but I'm going to make an exception for drugrehab.net. Looks like it might actually be useful to some people. I'm no fan of recreational drugs. Been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt, and the scars. But the war on some drugs is worse in every way than the drugs. Still, some people can benefit from help getting out of their habits, when they're ready.
