Brian Simpson explains the stimulus bill. Bravo! [root]
They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the student a bucket. Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, "First, go over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with as much water as you can." The student did as he was instructed.
The professor then continued, "Follow me over to the shallow end, and then dump all the water from your bucket into it." The student was naturally confused, but did as he was told.

That analogy doesn't really
That analogy doesn't really work unless:
- there's is a divider between the shallow and deep end to reflect the loss in the deep end
- there is substantial or near-total loss of water in the bucket before dumping it in the shallow end
- the shallow end is leaking and running out of water, reflecting the way we're propping up the failures
If the pool analogy reflects that we're draining the otherwise sound deep end to inefficiently refill the rapidly draining shallow end, and the whole pool ends up empty, then the analogy works.
