From The Lawyer:
"No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session." -- Gideon J. Tucker, 1866

From jomama:

"A reasonable man adapts himself to suit his environment. An unreasonable man persists in attempting to adapt his environment to suit himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." -- George Bernard Shaw

# Jon Carroll at The San Francisco Chronicle - Unitarian Jihad - my title, what if the Unitarians ran the world, instead of the differently-striped fundamentalists? It would be a calmer place, with much more of a sense of humor. Yay! [claire]

Greetings to the Imprisoned Citizens of the United States. We are Unitarian Jihad. There is only God, unless there is more than one God. The vote of our God subcommittee is 10-8 in favor of one God, with two abstentions. Brother Flaming Sword of Moderation noted the possibility of there being no God at all, and his objection was noted with love by the secretary.

...

People of the United States! We are Unitarian Jihad! We can strike without warning. Pockets of reasonableness and harmony will appear as if from nowhere! Nice people will run the government again! There will be coffee and cookies in the Gandhi Room after the revolution.

# The Claire Files - Writer's Block - recently separated from the rest of the board, this is a section for stories, mostly fiction. Currently being serialized: George Potter's "Roberta", parts one, two, and three, with the conclusion coming soon, Lullaby, another from Mr. Potter, chapters from John DeWitt's The Book of Lamentations, Incident at Apartment 264, Magic Bus, and Our Lady of Sorrows, a novella from Irish Jaeger, and shorter pieces by Elias Alias, dervish, henshawe, and Mac the Knife. [clairefiles]

# Send2Press Newswire via The Claire Files - WhosARat.com Prospers Despite Criticism from Officials - the "largest online database of informants and agents", WhosARat.com, is gaining in popularity, in spite of, or maybe because of, criticism from the rats. [clairefiles]

# Valerie Richardson at The Washington Times - Westerners see poetic justice in saving snakehead - Alan Gardner and twelve other "commissioners from Western counties" have filed to seek protection, under the Endangered Species Act, for the the northern snakehead fish, also known as the "Frankenfish". They are finding that to gummint bureaucrats, some pests are more equal than others. If it's a gray wolf or grizzly bear in the west, it's an endangered species. If it's a carnivorous fish in the east, it's injurious, hence unprotectable. [claire saltypig]

"What was really amazing to us is the biology we presented on our petition amounted to a biology professor pulling information off the computer," Mr. Gardner says. "And we had one comment from Fish and Wildlife saying that this was some of the better biology they've seen on an application."

# Kim du Toit - New Shooter(s) Update - Ben S. has formed a shooting club at Brandeis University. Yippee! Pictures included with the article. [kimdutoit]

Every single time I see Jewish kids shooting guns, the phrase "Never again!" is not far from my mind.

# Publicola - Filibusters - Publicola agrees with Gun Owners of America and yours truly, that ending fillibusters in the U.S. Senate would be a big blow to our gun rights. Anything that makes it harder for Congress to make new "laws" is a good thing. Hey, if we could stop them completely, it would be much better. Read the Tucker quote at the top of today's edition and take it to heart.

# Publicola - Barret: An Fine Example To All Gun Makers - Publicola includes links to a bunch of tenuous evidence that Barrett Firearms is now refusing to sell to any government agency in California, but he called them on the phone for confirmation, so I guess it's true. Bravo, Ronnie Barrett! [publicola]

# I received my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Twist Handle Joystick USB. $23 shipped. Works good, though it's taking a little learning to not move the rudder, by twisting the handle, when my intention is to move the ailerons, by moving it from side to side. Rudder pedals definitely work better, but a stick with pedals will run you a couple of hundred bucks. For the price, heck for twice the price, this is a great stick.
