# Kent Snyder at The Liberty Committee - ACTION ALERT: Mental-health screening of children - Ron Paul plans to make it harder for the gummint to drug our kids. Go here to send a letter to your representative supporting the amendment described below.

The American tradition of parents deciding what is best for their children is, yet again, under attack. The pharmaceutical industry has convinced President Bush to support mandatory mental-health screening for every child in America, including preschool children, and the industry is now working to convince Congress as well. But mandatory screening alone is not what the pharmaceutical industry wants. The real payoff for the drug companies is the forced drugging of children that will result -- as we learned tragically with Ritalin -- even when parents refuse.

Congressman Ron Paul, an OB/GYN physician for over 30 years, is desperately trying to keep the drug companies, politicians and federal bureaucrats from becoming parents to your children. Dr. Paul will introduce on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning (whenever the floor schedule allows) an amendment to the Labor, HHS, and Education Appropriations Act for FY 2005 that will withhold funds for this new federal mental-health-screening program. He will urge his congressional colleagues to support his effort in a letter to be distributed tomorrow morning.
I included the following in my message to Representative John Sweeney:
Above here was the Liberty Committee's form letter, with which I agree. Now I'm talking personally. Nobody will drug any member of my family without our agreement. Anyone who tries will suffer immediate serious consequences. Don't try.

# Bob Wallace at LewRockwell.com - Legitimate and Illegitimate Authority - an appeal to the Christians in the audience. Jesus' authority came from convincing people of the truth. Satan, the state, works by coercion and force. [lew]

The history of the world has not always been a fight between freedom and slavery. It has also been a fight between forced submission to an illegitimate authority, and voluntary submission to legitimate ones.

The Truth is larger than all of us. That is the legitimate authority to which all should voluntarily submit. The Truth, as the old saying goes, is that which will "set you free."

# Mike Wasdin at LewRockwell.com - Enemy of the State - an account of Mr. Wasdin's conversion from patriotic Republican to enemy of the state. He appears to be a bit down about it right now. Hopefully, he will realize that tyranny has not won as long as liberty is alive in his one heart. [lew]

I can now comprehend the fact that there is no possibility of freedom in this Country. It's too late. Call me a bad American but I am ashamed and hang my head low when I think of what America has become. Why would we enforce our will on others and disregard their sovereignty? Who appointed the United States nanny for the rest of the world? What an arrogance we must Depict. The experiment is over, freedom lost, tyranny won.

# Ron Paul - Reject the National ID Card - as I've said before, if they set up regular "papieren bitte" checkpoints on roads where I drive regularly, I will not allow them to be. This is a line in the sand for me. Unfortunately, Dr. Paul has fallen for the stop-them-at-the-border fallacy. No border guard can protect a country of 250 million people with nine thousand miles of border. It ain't gonna happen.

Washington politicians are once again seriously considering imposing a national identification card - and it may well become law before the end of the 108th Congress. The much-hailed 9/11 Commission report released in July recommends a federal identification card and, worse, a "larger network of screening points" inside the United States. Does this mean we are to have "screening points" inside our country where American citizens will be required to "show their papers" to government officials? It certainly sounds that way!

...

The federal government has no constitutional authority to require law-abiding Americans to present any form of identification before they engage in private transactions. Instead of forcing all Americans to prove to law enforcement that they are not terrorists, we should be focusing our resources on measures that really will make us safer. For starters, we should take a look at our dangerously porous and unguarded borders. We have seen already this summer how easy it is for individuals possibly seeking to do us harm to sneak across the border into our country. In July, Pakistani citizen Farida Goolam Mahomed Ahmed, who is on the federal watch list, reportedly crossed illegally into Texas from Mexico. She was later arrested when she tried to board a plane in New York, but she should have never been able to cross our border in the first place!
