iMovie Duration Fix

# I encountered a friend of mine last night in the mail room who has made a movie about the life of Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan. He did his editing in Apple's iMovie on his Macintosh G5, and plans to sell DVDs at the Labor Day retreat this weekend. He told me that he had a problem. He had edited the movie down to about 49 minutes, but all of a sudden it grew to an hour and 49 minutes, with an hour of black space at the end. I agreed to give him ten minutes; I was tired and wanted to go to sleep. So I went to his house, and sure enough, there was an hour of black space at the end of the movie, but no clip to get your hands on. I played around for almost an hour, ending with Google searches for "imovie black space at end" and "imovie total length", but couldn't find anything. Finally, my attention went to his audio tracks, and I asked how they worked. He zoomed up to make them take more space on the screen, and showed me how to change the volume through a track. I scrolled to the end, and there, at the hour and 49 minute mark, was a tiny audio track that had been too short to see in the full timeline zoom. He deleted it, and, voila, the total duration returned to 49 minutes. Al-hamdu lillah! My pay? A copy of the DVD and a meal at the nearby world-class Chinese restaurant, the Panda House in Lenox, MA. Yum!

# Barry G. Waterson at Unknown News - Compliments to the President from a genuine conservative - for completely changing the definition of "conservative" without most true conservatives even noticing. [saltypig]

My compliments to the President. He and his backers have managed to change the Republican philosophy in such a dramatic way, deserting many Conservative principles, but have assembled such a strong media team that they have pulled many followers along with them as if nothing had happened. They reversed some time-honored Conservative principles. What an achievement! Have you been paying attention or have you been hooked too?

1. Attempts to further Federalize marriage laws...

2. Expansion of the Federal Government...

3. Erosion of personal privacy...

4. Inadequate defense of the USA: Defending the USA has always been a Conservative value. But Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle and the rest of the chickenhawks attacked Iraq and occupied it so 170,000 US troops are tied up indefinitely over there. Pulling any number of troops out would mean the swift collapse of the Iraqi government and a religious majority takeover. Our US bases are nearly emptied, our reserves are called up for long tours, and the National Guard troops are serving like regular Army. The US is essentially unguarded until Iraq either stands on its own or collapses.

5. Medicare Prescription Coverage...

6. Massive Federal subsidies and handouts...

But nothing, I mean nothing, is as big a flip-flop as throwing conservative values onto the trash heap and making up new ones. My compliments to them for getting away with it.
