Fraudulent Event Notes
"The Bush Administration isn't conservative Republicanism, and it's not radical Republicanism -- it's extreme libertarianism." -- John Kerryand:
"Why, you bunch of pitiful, hypocritical, idiotic, spoiled mug-wumps. Get your heads out of the sand and smell the Twin Towers." -- Charlie Daniels
From muth:
Since we've been out in the woods with no TV, radio or newspaper for the past week, we're not sure exactly what happened in the northeast yesterday [Thursday] afternoon, but it would appear that a significant portion of the country just found out what it would be like if California Gov. Gray Davis ever got elected president of the United States. Or any of the other nine dwarfs for that matter. -- Chuck Muth
From Doing Freedom!:
"All our liberties are due to men who, when their conscience has compelled them, have broken the laws of the land." -- William Kingdon Clifford

Doing Freedom! - August, 2003 - Carl Bussjaeger has put up the new issue. My mirror (of the public version) is here. Please subscribe if you haven't already. Keep Carl in business.
Andrew Batson at Dow Jones Newswires via Cryptome - China Begins Effort to Replace Citizen IDs With Digital Cards - Big Brother gets even bigger in the land of the dragon. [cryptome]
The introduction of the cards will be accompanied by a major upgrade of the security ministry's databases and computer systems, analysts say. China's security forces, which investigate political misdeeds as well as other crimes, have been enthusiastic users of technology -- for instance, to monitor Internet and e-mail traffic -- and face few curbs on how they can use such technology.
April Shenandoah at Sierra Times - THEM against US: Machine Guns Guard the Castle Doors - The Capitol building in Washington DC is now a fortress. The people, we who own it, are no longer allowed unfetterred access. Guess it's been that way for a while now, but I didn't know about it until today. Very sad. [sierra]
As I walked around the Capitol, excuse me "the fortress," I was holding back the tears. The beautiful Capitol building that I always looked forward to entering was now hidden by trees and a huge wall. The magnificent view of the Capitol steps where one could walk, sit, or freely demonstrate, is gone. The public is no longer welcome (unless you have an appointment). Are we really so stupid? If a "terrorist" has an intended target, a wall will not be a deterrent. What ever we resist or fear is the thing that controls us - so we might as well say the "terrorists" have won.
...
One can still go sit in the Gallery to watch Congress at work; however, they do not make it easy to get there. People are herded to the back of the Capitol (outside) and then must make their way up several flights of steps (elevator use not permitted). In essence, they are discouraging the idea. The White House and the Capitol no longer belong to "the people" -- even though "the peoples" hard earned (tax) dollars pays for it all!
