And a Jolie Good Time Was Had by All

From kaba (bears frequent repetition):
"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." -- H. L. Mencken
and:
"The power of the state is measured by the power that men surrender to it." -- Felix Morley

From Quotes of the Day:

"The denunciation of the young is a necessary part of the hygiene of older people, and greatly assists in the circulation of their blood." -- Logan Pearsall Smith

Kevin Tuma - Spending - cartoon commentary on the welfare-warfare state's penchant for over-spending. Hehe.

For some reason I woke up at 2am after about 5 hours of sleep. I'm finally getting tired again, so I'd better sleep some more so I'll have enough energy for the ELGS™ ("Evil Loophole Gun Show", details in yesterday's offering) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life.

Did I say yet how much I like my Gamo PT-80 Pellet Pistol? I did? Well, I'll say it again. I really like this gun. Fired a quick 96 rounds last evening. That's two loadings of my six eight-shot magazines interrupted by a quick CO2 cartridge change. I fired at a milk carton about 15 yards away. It made a satisfying sound. Many pellets ended up inside.

Ogre's Blades is an MTech line of knives that Mad Ogre is selling for $20 apiece, plus $5 shipping per order. He says about them: [madogre]

The knives are good. Damn good. I have the LEO model clipped to my pocket right now. Seriously. I'm ordering in a number of the knives from the importer directly. This is why I can sell them really cheap, even if they are not cheap knives themselves. Like I said before, these knives are just as good as anything you would spend twice the amount for from Columbia River... I'm not exaggerating. In fact, I think these are better because they have a better blade steel then the Columbia River knives. The fixed blade knives will be available shortly... I'm waiting to get more information on them and to get one of each to see for myself if they are worthy.

The Makarov CO2 Pistol looks and feels just like a real Makarov pistol, but fires standard .177 caliber BBs. The BBs and the CO2 cartridge are stored in a special magazine. $150.

Ron Paul at LewRockwell.com - The Unpatriot Act - some recent small wins in the battle against the U.S.A. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act. [lew]

Michael Savage - Should Michael Savage explore an exploration committee to run for Governor of the State of California as an Independent? - Heard this on the radio driving home from work on Thursday night. I occasionally listen to Savage for the same reason I occasionally listen to Limbaugh: I find him entertaining and funny, in a strange sort of way. His platform: BORDERS * LANGUAGE * CULTURE. Couldn't be worse than Gray Davis, could he?

Bruce W. Krafft at KeepAndBearArms.com - My Day At The Mall - a Minnesota man excercises, in the Mall of America, his newly recognized right to bear arms, and is "detained" by the local constabulary. [kaba]

A few minutes later another officer came in, asking similar questions. Not happy with my answers he said, "Can we talk man to man here? You're not recording me are you?"

I assured him my tape recorder had been removed. "It's people like you who are going to screw this up for everybody," he continued. "The state has done us a favor by allowing people the privilege of carrying a gun, and guys like you who just want to push things past their limits are going to screw it all up."

Well, with so many breathtakingly idiotic comments, where does one start?

"First of all," I replied, "the state did not 'do us a favor'. It merely finally recognized our rights. And I am not 'pushing' anything. The plain language of the law states a landlord may not restrict tenants or their guests from carrying. The plain language of the law states what the signs have to say and where they have to be posted."

"Well I don't care about all that" he said. "This is a family place and people's kids shouldn't have to see people carrying guns out in the open." (One of my friends later pointed out that this was the perfect opportunity to ask, "So people should only carry in strip clubs and bars?")

I replied, "Everyone, especially kids, should see people exercising their inalienable rights."

"Inalienable, huh?" he snorted. "We'll see. I'm gonna run your permit through the Ramsey County Sheriff, and then I'll be back."

Damn, he still didn't take the handcuffs off!

A few minutes later he was back to take the handcuffs off and inform me that I hadn't been "arrested." In a bizarre twist of semantics, I apparently had been "detained."
