Would you think it odd if Hafiz said,
"I am in love with every church
And mosque
And temple
And any kind of shrine
Because I know it is there
That people say the different names
Of the One God."
Would you tell your friends
I was a bit strange if I admitted
I am indeed in love with every mind
And heart and body.
O I am sincerely
Plumb crazy
About your every thought and yearning
And limb
Because, my dear,
I know
That it is through these
That you search for Him.

Linux General at CramSession - Borg vs Microsoft - an oldy but goody. Hehe. [brianf]
Riker "Good God captain! Those are humans floating straight toward the Borg ship with no life support suits ! How can they survive the tortures of deep space ?!"
Data "I don't believe that those are humans sir, if you will look closer, I believe you will see that they are carrying something recognized by twenty-first century man as doe skin leather briefcases, and wearing Armani suits"
Riker and Picard together horrified "Lawyers !!"
Geordi "It can't be. All the lawyers were rounded up and sent hurtling into the sun in 2017 during the Great Awakening."
St. Louis Post-Dispatch Voter Guide - Tamara A. Millay - a real libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate from Missouri. Refreshing! Her campaign web site is www.tamaramillay.org. [smith2004]
If elected, what would you do to help Congress pass effective legislation that would help your district?
A district -- or a state -- is its people. As a U.S. Senator, my goal would be to help the people of Missouri. I'd help Missourians by introducing legislation to repeal the federal income tax and let them keep the money they work so hard to earn. I'd help Missourians by introducing a blanket repeal of the more than 20,000 "gun control" laws -- more accurately called "victim disarmament" laws -- that threaten Missourians with prison if they dare to defend themselves from criminals. I'd help Missourians by introducing a blanket repeal of the laws that enable the "War on Drugs" and destroy Missouri's families, imprisoning thousands of Missourians for "crimes" that have no victims.

2. Do you support a federal prescription drug benefit to help elderly Americans with health care costs? If so, how would you pay for it?
In a way, I suppose I do. My health care plan is simple: get government out of the health care business. Health care costs have skyrocketed with every government intervention, as any economist worth his salt could have predicted. Pharmaceutical companies have to spend hundreds of millions of dollars getting a new drug approved by the bureaucrats at FDA; it's time to disband that agency and turn its functions over to a private entity financed by insurers, much like Underwriters Laboratories, which conducts safety trials of household electrical products. It's time to end the federal "scheduling" of drugs that limits their availability based on a "prescription" from a government-created medical monopoly. And it's time to end the war on marijuana, which is a cheap, effective and safe treatment for the chronic pain, nausea and loss of appetite which plague many patients, especially the elderly.
Prior to government involvement in health care, doctors made house calls and illness didn't throw the uninsured into bankruptcy. As an uninsured worker myself, I dread the prospect of an illness in my family -- and I know that the government can only hurt, not help, the situation.
Edgar J. Steele at The Federal Observer - The Death of Free Speech and Individualism... In the New World Order of America! - How bad is it? Bad. Real Bad. The lawyer for a whole bunch of politically incorrect clients tells it like it is. [kaba]
The system is broken - irretrievably broken. It can't be fixed because it won't be fixed. We can't work within the system any more to effect meaningful change because the system won't allow it.
As a lawyer, I'm inside the system. Everyone says the system is broken. You don't know how bad things really are.
Joseph Sobran - John Lindh, Patriot - to Afghanistan, but patriot he was. By the way, we invaded them, not the other way round. A pleasantly fresh perspective from Mr. Sobran. [lew]
Paul Craig Roberts at vdare - New Evidence on Gun Control II: The British Experience - when guns are outlawed, outlaws will have lots and lots of guns, and use them, too. But you knew that. [lew]
Ron Paul's Texas Straight Talk - The Homeland Security Non-Debate - the Amerikan Reich makes quick and steady progress.
I did vote for several amendments to the bill that would maintain the strength and independence of federal agencies that are vitally important to the 14th congressional district in Texas. However, I voted a resounding NO on final passage. This legislation will have an even greater negative impact than the terrible Patriot Act passed shortly after September 11th.
Hans-Hermann Hoppe at The Ludwig von Mises Institute - The Private Production of Defense - a classic that I've probably linked to before, but worth a re-read if you've seen it already. [tle]
Patrick K Martin at The Libertarian Enterprise - Assassination and Sabotage: Are They the Libertarian Art of War? - yes, according to Mr. Martin. Makes sense to me. If some country's president declares war on my country, and sends people over to threaten my life, killing him makes a lot more sense than killing a bunch of innocent civilians in his country. [tle]
Curt Howland at The Libertarian Enterprise - Voluntary Money - It's time to get government out of the money business. Return to hard currency (precious metals). It would work far better than the Federal Reserve's fiat dollars. Far better. [tle]
A good friend of mine said that government must exist to "establish treaties with foreign powers, provide overall direction to armed forces in times of war, provide a court system for resolving disputes, etc." Even some individuals who consider themselves to be anarcho- capitalists believe there are specific services that only a government can satisfactorily provide.
What I have found very educational is that people differ as to what those specific services are. In the spirit of free enterprise, if you see a way to provide a service that others do not, do it and make a fortune serving your customers better than anyone else. Making government irrelevant is my preferred peaceful path of revolution, one service at a time, which is one reason I absolutely loath government mandated monopolies.
One such service is money.

Jim Davidson, who runs GoldBarter.com and generously read through this for me, relates the following: "Seriously, in the year 2 A.D. one could go to the Roman Forum with an ounce of gold in coin and buy a toga, a pair of sandals, and a belt. Today, you take the dollar equivalent of an ounce of gold ($317.90 today) and buy a decent suit, a pair of shoes, and a belt at the Men's Wearhouse. Not bad for protection against inflation, huh? Two thousand years of price stability. (G. Edward Griffin, The Creature from Jekyll Island, 1994. Page 52, I think)"

The United States of America has been a police state for many decades already, (if not even since at least 1861). The establishment of the FBI, the CIA, the NSA, the DEA, the BATF, and now the OHS and TIPS are not the work of anything other than a police state. That the situation grows worse all the time does not mean that there is a "danger" of a police state, but that such entities always progress in just this manner.

In the interests of clearing up the confusion, I'll make the following observation: Jan "the man" Reno is running for governor of Florida, even as I type. This is the individual who took "full responsibility" for the deliberate mass murder of innocent women and children at Waco, Texas, on the pretext of serving a warrant for a minor violation of a firearms registration law. She did this in her (then) capacity as the highest-ranking law enforcement officer of the federal state. She has never faced a single charge for these murders.
Now the evil bitch is openly campaigning to become gauleiter of the Sunshine State. This could only happen in a police state. In any other kind of nation such an individual would be kept under lock and key; in the USA, Charlie Sheen is out shilling for this fascist demon.
Minority Mike at The Libertarian Enterprise - Tipped Over - I haven't seen one of Mike's screeds in a long time. Too long. Mike reports on a day in the life of a TIPS informant. Hehe. [tle]
1300: Entered American-made pick-up truck, saluted George Bush face decal and drove to farmers market. Overheard Amish farmer speaking to his son regarding his adherance to pacifisim. Made citizen's arrest on grounds of child abuse, executed farmer for the good of his child, radioed Stasi, er, uh, police and awaited transport for child to reeducation camp, er, uh, state mandated home. Promoted to General and awarded Congressional Medal of Okra.
