From Quotes of the Day:
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much. -- Oscar Wilde
and:
Stoop and you'll be stepped on; stand tall and you'll be shot at. -- Carlos A. Urbizo

Dragon's Fury - Trodden Under by Jeff Head is available for download from Amazon. $13. No shipping since it's an electronic download. Get yours now. I ordered it. It took about 10 minutes for the order status to change from "being processed" to allowing me to download. I had to install Adobe eBook Reader first. This application is available for Windows and Macintosh, but NOT Linux. After installing eBook Reader, I had to reboot my machine, but then everything went smoothly. It automatically downloaded the book from a link at Amazon, and I'm reading away. Nice application.

Lai Lai Boy at Kuro5hin - The Quotable James Traficant - Quotes from the Congressional hearing that resulted in Mr. Traficant's expulsion. If you have Real Player, you can watch the CSPAN video. Steve LaTourette gave a convincing testimony on a motion to postpone Mr. Traficant's explusion. The motion to postpone appeared to have passed by voice vote, but someone requested a poll, and the recorded vote went strongly the other way (146/285). Arm-twisting during the vote, eh? Beam me up. [kuro5hin]

"I want you to disregard all the opposing counsel has said. I think they're delusionary. I think they've had something funny for lunch in their meal, I think they should be handcuffed, chained to a fence and flogged, and all of their hearsay evidence should be thrown the hell out. And if they lie again, I'm going to go over there and kick them in the crotch. Thank you very much." _ Traficant's closing statement to the ethics panel.

The Avalon Project at Yale Law School - Ratification of the Constitution by the State of New York; July 26, 1788 - Though it's not in the state constitution, the right to keep and bear arms figured prominently in New York state's ratification of the U.S. Consitution: [trt-ny]

That the People have a right to keep and bear Arms; that a well regulated Militia, including the body of the People capable of bearing Arms, is the proper, natural and safe defence of a free State;

That the Militia should not be subject to Martial Law except in time of War, Rebellion or Insurrection.

That standing Armies in time of Peace are dangerous to Liberty, and ought not to be kept up, except in Cases of necessity; and that at all times, the Military should be under strict Subordination to the civil Power.

Taylor Caldwell at JPFO - Teach your children to be brave - from The Devil's Advocate, written in 1952. [geneice]

...A wise man distrusts his neighbor. A wiser man distrust both his neighbor and himself. The wisest man of all distrusts his government. Therefore, be watchful and sleepless; be brave, be strong; be without fear. This is not the end. Villains will try, again and again and again, to enslave you, until the end of time. It is in your hands to defeat them and to destroy them, whenever or however they appear.

freshmeat - Boehm-Demers-Weiser Conservative Garbage Collector - looks like a winner. A replacement for C malloc or C++ new. Standard mark/sweep, or incremental on operating systems with appropriate virtual memory support. I'm not likely to ever try this, but I think garbage collection is the cat's meow, so I'm linking to it. [meat]
