A Divine Invitation

You have been invited to meet
The Friend.

No one can resist a Divine Invitation.

That narrows down all our choices
To just two:

We can come to God
Dressed for Dancing,

Or

Be carried on a stretcher
To God's Ward

(I Heard God Laughing: Renderings of Hafiz by Daniel Ladinsky)

Kevin Tuma - The Melonheaded Snipe - cartoon commentary on the sub-species of homo sapiens that is green on the outside and red on the inside. Hehe.

gampid at Kuro5hin - Large EU Protest Marred By Police Violence And Shootings - gampid's interpretation of reports from sweden.indymedia.org would have you believe that Swedish cops fired into a crowd of peaceful protesters. Commentary here makes it clear that they fired at individuals who were attacking them with rocks. This LA Indymedia page claims that the cops started it by interfering with some proptesters who were peacefully dancing. Bottom line: one protester shot in the stomach, another in the leg.

Mauricio Rosas at the Tampa Tribune - What security issue did they mean? - a first-person account by a woman who was arrested at the gw rally on June 4 for holding up "a letter-size piece of paper that had on it 'June is Gay Pride Month' in bold letters". [unknown]

Global Warming Natural, May End Within 20 Years, Says Ohio State University Researcher - Robert Essenhigh claims that the current global warming is simply the peak of the earth's natural 100,000 year cycle of warming and cooling. It's caused by the earth's water cycle. Carbon dioxide levels are a symptom, not a cause of this. Man is responsible for only 5% of the carbon dioxide "emissions". [mind]

The researcher suggests that atmospheric carbon dioxide -- often thought of as a key "greenhouse gas" -- is not the cause of global warming. The opposite is most likely to be true, according to Robert Essenhigh, E.G. Bailey Professor of Energy Conservation in Ohio State's Department of Mechanical Engineering. It is the rising global temperatures that are naturally increasing the levels of carbon dioxide, not the other way around, he says.

RCA has a free mp3PRO encoder/decoder. mp3PRO is backwards and forwards compatible with the old mp3, but creates files that are half the size and sound better. This is demoware that can record at a maximum of 64Kbps. It is a demo for technology created by Coding Technologies. [joel]

damaged justice at Music for Misanthropes - Sunday, June 17, 2001 - Ian acknowledges my problems installing Ogg Vorbis goodies (I seem to be alone on this score), and links to CDEx as a good Windoze ripper. He also links to r3mix.net, which appears to have some good info on ripping and encoding software. Strangely, FreeAmp installed today. Guess I just needed a reboot. It requires a reboot before running it, so I won't try it until tonite or tomorrow (gotta get to work). [MfM]
