There are a couple of updates to my Linda Hamilton page:
  • GUNOWNERS - We've been had: a letter from Russ Hamilton telling of unfulfilled promises for monetary assistance from the NRA, GOA, and GOAL.
  • Letter from attorney Cindy Hill: Ms. Hill is an attorney from Vermont with experience in firearms cases. In this letter she offers to represent Linda, but requires a $5,000 retainer that the Hamiltons do not have.
demitria monde thraam at Randomonium - 10.10.2000: good commentary on why you should tell your kids the truth about drugs, both good and bad. I.e. marijuana is almost harmless, acid flashbacks are no big deal (though why any sane person would want to intentionally induce schizophrenia, I no longer understand), but heroin is physically addicting and withdrawal is really hard. Monde fell into the heroin trap because after she discovered that she'd been lied to about the dangers of cannabis and acid, she thought the stories about smack were also lies. They weren't. I don't see any way to point to individual stories here. Search for "10.10.2000". [randomonium]

Brent Simmons at inessential.com - tuesday, october 10, 2000: Brent has found a weblog that is the exact opposite of his. He's not telling which one, but asks if you know of a weblog to which you have a similar relationship. [brent]

To me it reads like: "Pure evil is good." And people say: "Right on! You hit the nail on the head with that pure evil thing! So insightful!"

www.teesdale.com - 90 million: a flash video with a potent reminder for our "leaders". Many good quotes and images. [kaba]

90 million households harbor 240 million firearms. Feel like trying to come and take them? ... Don't even try it. You've been warned.

Peter Jennings at ABC News - NRA Declares War: algore has stopped talking about his gun grabbing policies, but Charlton Heston has not forgotten. He's asking people to vote their guns and defeat algore. [sierra]

"I don't want someone coming to my door, knocking on my door," said [NRA member Charles] Jones, "and telling me that I have to surrender my gun."

...

The NRA will spend $15 to 20 million in this year's elections. Much of that will be spent on television in these last four weeks. Charlton Heston is the messenger in the ads: "Have you noticed how Al Gore has stopped talking about your gun rights? Is he afraid of gun owners' votes? Because if Al Gore wins, gun owners better be afraid of him. Vote George Bush for president."

Scott Jordan at Sierra Times - Script for Bush's Next Debate: If GW said this tonite, they'd have to wash algore out of the turret with a hose. [sierra]

"Another good indicator of character is the ability to talk straight and keep promises. Promises like a tax cut. Instead Mr. Gore and Mr. Clinton gave you the biggest tax hike in history. They even made it retroactive, bet you forgot that too. Lots of folks have to work second jobs, or send their spouse out to work, because the tax load is too high, higher than anytime since World War Two. Bet you didn't know that the average American spends more on taxes than food, clothing, transportation, entertainment and housing combined. Mr. Gore isn't gonna tell you that. Mr. Lehrer seems not to notice either. But boy, when I promise to give people some of their own money back, Mr. Gore is fit to pop. He'd rather give that money to someone who didn't earn it. Funny, that sounds familiar. Let's see, how's it go, "From each according to their ability, to each according to their needs." Karl Marx said that. I think he and Mr. Gore would find a lot to agree on.

bob lonsberry - Should Rapists Get the Death Penalty? Tells the gruesome tale of a monster out on bail for a rape accusation who raped an 11 year-old girl, repeatedly, and locked her in a suitcase. I agree with Mr. Lonsberry that this animal surrendered its right to life by its actions. But capital punishment by the state? I no longer trust the courts to decide anything.

Joseph Sobran at LewRockwell.com - The Death Penalty: as if on cue, I found this article right after reading Mr. lonsberry's article above. [lew]

The modern state is itself a criminal enterprise. And though the death penalty is intrinsically just and does deter, we don't want justice enforced by criminals.

Mike Shelton at the Orange County Register - Before and After the Debates: cartoon commentary on how the debates have changed voter opinion. Hehe.

Roger Margerison at KeepAndBearArms.com - Switching Sides: Why Mr. Margerison has decided to join the Brady Bunch. Not! [kaba]

This brings us to gun control. I firmly believe in gun control. When I am not using my guns they are under my control. Safely stored where they can be reached and used if necessary. When they are in use I believe in gun control. Acting as they are all loaded all the time (even when they are not), being very careful where the barrel is pointing, and only pointing at what I wish to put holes in are just a few of the important areas of gun control in which I firmly believe. When shooting, keeping in mind what is behind the target I am putting holes in is a part of good gun control, as well. Remembering BRASS which I was taught in the USMC; Breathe, Relax, Aim, Slack, Squeeze, also helps gun control.

A Dear Friend of Brian Clifford at KeepAndBearArms.com - Forgive me, for I have sinned: An About Face After Being Saved by a Gun Owner One woman's experience on the way back from the Forty Thousand Moms March. [kaba]

J.C. Gardner at KeepAndBearArms.com - A Few Thoughts from "Becker Flats": We, a law-abiding people, have become slaves to a criminal state with no regard for the law. [kaba]

There comes a time when a people MUST determine when the Law of Man has become so evil that the Law of God must usurp the law of man and crush it! I believe that our Jewish brethren in large part learned this lesson earlier in this century, and I believe that the Christian peoples of this nation, at the dawn of the 21st century, are about to learn this same lesson.

R.D. Lee at KeepAndBearArms.com - The Election: A law enforcement officer tells us why he believes an algore presidency may trigger a civil war. [kaba]

Having been a law enforcement officer for a number of years, I have given much thought to the POLITICS of our country today. If you ask most any line police officer he will tell you the same thing, "he has never met a line officer that advocated the removal of firearms from the law abiding people of this country." Only those in law enforcement politics seem to think that removal is a good idea. I personally have had a citizen come to my assistance late one night because he heard on his scanner what I had not heard. When I called for back-up, the dispatcher had switched to the county frequency to get me that help. My closest back-up was 25 long minutes away. All I knew was suddenly a man I barely knew drove up gun in hand and helped me subdue a man that I might otherwise have had to shoot.

...

What most people have not thought about is the Revolution was not started over taxes. The American Revolution was really engaged after the attempt to take powder and shot from the people - because King George had decided the Kings forces could protect the people better than they could protect themselves. Our own Government would do well to remember this. If slightly more than 10% of the then current population could defeat the then most powerful nation, what can 35% to 40% that is willing to fight do.
