Karl F. Auerbach at Sierra Times - Is Fascism Inevitable? Defines fascism, shows that it isn't very different than communism, shows that we're living under it right now in America, and tells us how to prevent it. This story will likely move here next week. [sierra]
There is one important point to realize in all this: fascism/communism requires power, and power comes from government. Limit government power, and you reduce the chance for fascism to arise. Allow government powers to expand, and fascism is inevitable.
Joel Miller at WorldNetDaily - Drug war's filthy lucre: watch your wallet. The drug warriors will confiscate your cash if their dogs smell cocaine on it. Trouble is, about half the cash in circulation is tainted with drugs. [wnd]
Arianna Huffington - Why Bush Will Lose: Arianna has decided that algore will win the election. She's not happy at the prospect, but she thinks it's a done deal. Heaven help us.
I do, however, believe in the zeitgeist -- the spirit of the times. Every season has one, and when a political leader taps into it, he usually wins -- whatever his shortcomings and however profound his flaws. And there are few presidential candidates as profoundly flawed and deeply unattractive as Al Gore (so much so that I'm almost willing to break my long-standing dismissal of all polls and believe the one that found that 36 percent of Americans would rather kill themselves than spend a week with the vice president).
