Why I left The Empire State
Alexander Portelli tells his story of growing up in Albany, learning about and attempting to fight the ingrained corruption of a communist state, and finally giving up on the commies and moving to New Hampshire. Long, but worth the read.
I've left New York to live in New Hampshire, which is by all means on the opposite of New York on the political spectrum. Eventually, someday, when there is not an inch of opportunity left, and not a bit of wealth to loot, and not a feel-good policy left to enact, and the people are so poor and hungry and bored and desperate that they get nothing but disgust as the liberal statists make their last soup kitchen or free lunch promise, then New York will begin to rebuild. But until then, I can only hope that the disease which is statism killed New York State, doesn't seep into New Hampshire and bring it's despair here too. The grass isn't always greener on the other side, but when leaving New York, the grass is always greener.
