The Ten Patriots Who Voted Against the Patriot Act

Michael Paladin - only ten U.S. senators voted against the slightly-modified renew-and-make-permanent version of the U.S.A. T.R.A.I.T.O.R. Act. May the rest be drawn and quartered. This is H.R. 3199, "To extend and modify authorities needed to combat terrorism, and for other purposes". Here's the roll call. The only patriots left in the Senate are Akaka (D-HI), Bingaman (D-NM), Byrd (D-WV), Feingold (D-WI), Harkin (D-IA), Jeffords (I-VT), Leahy (D-VT), Levin (D-MI), Murray (D-WA), and Wyden (D-OR). Slashdot discussion. [paladin]

It doesn't really matter anymore, does it?

After all, the Spooks do whatever they want without regard to the law anyway. And they get away with it. And, after their illegal activities come to light, the President just scolds the press for compromising the illegal program, and the Congress decides to retroactively legalize the whole mess.

Oh well... There'll probably be another 9-11 soon to justify a major "counterattack" to disrupt the Iranian euro-based petroleum bourse. Then our "Leaders" will come up with something that makes USAPATRIOT look downright libertarian.

And most of America will welcome it.
