Polite Or Subservient?
Kim du Toit - just about the most polite discussion I've seen between cops and non-cops about asserting your rights at a traffic stop. Comments were closed there, so I'll have to reiterate here my one pet peeve with the discussion. Government employees, as citizens, have rights. Acting in their official capacity, they do not have rights. They have authorities and powers, expressly granted them by the federal and state constitutions. Once they step outside that constitutional cage, they are fair game, though expressing your rights in that way is very dangerous in Police State Amerika.
