Libertarian Party selects Bob Barr as 2008 presidential nominee

LP.org press release - it took six rounds of voting, but Bob Barr defeated Mary Ruwart by a vote of 324 to 276 to become the Libertarian Party's 2008 candidate for president. Wayne Allyn Root was selected as Mr. Barr's running mate. I'll have to admit that if I were to pick the lesser of two evils, Barr is highly preferable to John McCain. I hope millions of Republicans will agree. Personally, I do not intend to vote in this year's election, unless by some miracle Ron Paul is the Republican candidate. I'm not convinced that Barr has truly forsaken his drug warrior ways.

Recordings of the C-Span coverage of the debates at the Denver Sheraton Hotel, before the voting, are on Google Video in two parts: one (80 minutes) and two (40 minutes).

I watched the debate. I think Steve Kubby was the clear winner. Relaxed, confident, real.

I've always had a problem with thinking of Bob Barr as a libertarian (either big or little L) what with his past as a drug-warrior, bedroom-snooper, etc.

Plus I made a vow to myself that I would never again vote for anyone who voted for USA-PATRIOT, so he's DQed.

I continue to be amazed at how often when it comes to advancing freedom via politics that people often seem to say that "People can improve themselves, except if they were ever Republicans."
