Give Me the Immigrants
L. Neil Smith at Random - why Neil prefers immigrants, even "illegal" ones, to gummint kleptocrats.
Until the middle of the last century -- about the time of World War II -- kleptocracy in America acted with a fairly intelligent restraint. As long as it stole the least it could steal to satisfy its hunger, and otherwise left those pretty much alone who were forced to feed it, its victims could be persuaded -- this is where the con comes in -- they have a moral duty to pay the kleptocrats, a parasitic class who are almost certainly incapable of earning a living in a truly free society.
Similarly, if the kleptocrats of this country had ever made the slightest effort to abide by, observe, respect, or enforce the highest law of the land -- the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution, commonly known as the Bill or Rights, instead of spending their time and energy whittling it down, bit by bit, year after year, century after century, the country might be worth saving from unfriendly intruders who seem bent on making changes whether we want them made or not.

Rich but statist to the core!
The author makes pretty good points, but.. So many of the worst statists are people that are personally very wealthy and often self-made wealth too. That life of privilege is what makes them so favorable toward state imposed equality schemes IMHO.
Regualtions? They don't hurt them. Gun control? They've got Secret Service or excellent private security, so who cares about having a gun. Militarism? They don't serve up their kids to Leviathan's war machine. Affirmative action and such? Bah. Their kids get into the Ivies on a legacy basis.
How I see it anyhow.
