The madness of the National Animal Identification System

Claire Wolfe - the power-mad in federal and local gummint want to register every premise housing any animal, register every animal, and record every time an animal leaves the registered premises. [claire]

The program is not mandatory, yet, except in a few states. But they're definitely thinking about it. So what's the difference between my dog and me, as far as tracking disease goes. Damn little. Guess where this is going, folks.

From Walter Jeffries:

If NAIS is forced on small farmers and homesteaders it will destroy them. The last thing we need is oodles of paperwork, fees and government intervention in our lives. The problem is the big factory farms and feedlots. That is where the disease issues are. They are the ones that will benefit in expanded export markets (the origin of NAIS years ago) so the big guys should do NAIS. But NAIS should not be made mandatory for the small farms that sell direct. NAIS should not be forced on homesteaders who raise meat for themselves. NAIS should not be mandated for pets as is written in the current NAIS plan. Taking your horse for a trail ride will require filing forms and paying fees. Will NAIS happen? It alread IS happening in Wisconsin, Texas and Tennesse. Vermont's Idiot of Agriculture is saying he will implement it all the way to the backyard - every single animal is to be registered and any home with animals must get a premise ID and pay a registration fee every year.

NAIS is evil thought up by big corporations to benefit them with more sales and profits. At first they probably didn't realize how destructive it would be to small famers and homesteaders. Now they know and are pushing the program even harder.

NAIS is pronounced Nazi.

Remember that. NAIS is pronounced Nazi. If the nazis come to my house to register my animals, I will shoot them dead. I hope that you will too.

Nat'l Animal Identification System

I am around horses and horse people a lot, and the scary thing, to me, is how many of them (and folks of all backgrounds, education levels, etc.) still say, "well, it's going to be a pain, but it's for our own protection." So much for this being the informed age!
