Amazon: Grid Storage Web Service Launches
Michael Arrington at Techcrunch - Amazon has launched S3, a "Simple Storage Service". Accessible only as a web service. No user-level front-end. $0.15 per gigabyte per month plus $0.20 per gigabyte transferred. Objects are stored with developer-specified unique keys. They can be from 1 byte to 5 gigabytes in size. Access control provided. Bittorrent interface available to reduce bandwidth costs. No minimum fee and no start-up cost. [script]
Move over Google Drive, Amazon just stole your thunder (for now).
