Spring Forward, 2001
Declan McCullagh at Wired - Secret Service Raids Gold-Age - A bunch of goons invaded the business of a guy in Syracuse (NY) who trades cash for e-gold. They stole his computers. Maggots. grabbe labeled this story, "Organized Crime Raids Gold-Age". Apt. [wired]
Gold-Age owner Parker Bradley says that during his eight-hour interrogation on March 12, the Secret Service seemed less interested in credit card fraud and more interested in the mechanics of e-gold. Until last year, Bradley accepted credit cards and paid out e-gold, but said he quit because too many people used stolen credit cards when conducting business with him."The interrogation became less about me and more about politics and e-gold," Bradley said. "They were trying to get me to blame e-gold for fraud. Just to be blunt, these guys have no clue about how e-commerce works, how e-gold works or what I was doing."
Peter Cohen at MacCentral - Opera 5.0 tech preview 2 released - If you've got a Mac, give Opera a try. I've been using it on Windows for quite a while, and I love it. The .bin is available here. I tried it on my Mac. It works well. This preview release is time limited. You'll have to pay for it with dollars or ad views when it becomes final. ["surf"]
BlueBox looks interesting. It uses the "word model" of programming, something the authors claim is better than the object-oriented model. ["k5"]
I tried Jabbernaut on my PowerMac. Very nice Jabber client. Wish I could run it on my Windoze machine.
Mac OS X GM Release Notes: Java - It's JDK 1.3 with a native Aqua Swing user interface. Gotta get that Titanium PowerBook soon. [wes]
