Power Mad NY DAs
DRCNet - New York: District Attorneys Mount Opposition to Rockefeller Reforms: Governor Pataki recently proposed some "reforms" to the Rockefeller drug laws. This would return some sentencing discretion to judges, which is good, but it also made harsher the penalities for selling drugs. Even this is too much for New York's DAs. It takes away some of their power. Of course you all know my opinion on this issue, but I'll repeat it just in case you've forgotten. I think all drugs should be completely deregulated. In the words of Vin Suprynowicz:
This does not mean that "Marijuana should be available by prescription." It means that morphine sulfate should be available in five pound bags at the supermarket for a couple of bucks, like sugar... but probably in a different aisle, to avoid confusion.
Frances L. Van Scoy at West Virginia University - The Return of the Reid List: Mr. Van Scoy has taken over maintence of Dick Reid's list of which programming languages are used as the first course at various universities. Most interesting. C++ and Ada are prominent, but there are multiple instance of Scheme, Java, Modula, and Pascal, as well as one Fortran. [cafe]
Neil F. Johhnson at George Mason University - Steganography: defines steganography, evaluates some software, and provides references. Added to my links page in the "Crypto" section. [grabbe]
