Brian Fitzgerald - violent pornography: Brian bops me up side the head for my pro-gun stance. Brian, Brian. Self-defense and war are very different things. The former is a personal response to a personal physical attack. The other is a socialist response by tyrants to a perceived attack on their power base. The former is programmed into the organism for self-preservation. The latter I will never understand. Why do some people want to run other people's lives? Why does anyone think that democracy is any better than any other form of tyranny? For a very weak government that has been put in charge of a few small tasks, democracy is a harmless way to determine exactly how those tasks will be performed. But when the state steals 50% of its slaves' income and routinely legislates new "crimes" out of thin air, democracy turns quickly into fascism. Witness the nazi "seatbelt checks" this weekend. Papieren, bitte! [brianf]
I personally suspect that many "Libertarians" are merely unaware of which car of the "Gravy Train" they are riding in, or who's rights they are about to mistakenly and very permanently usurp through inappropriate use of a firearm. A very thin line seperates one who will use a gun for personal defense from one who will consent to send your children (or parents, or siblings) to war against your will.

I would never consent to send any unwilling person to war. Conscription is kidnapping. Supposing there were a war somewhere far away, like Vietnam or Kosovo or Colombia? Suppose someone came to my house and told me I had to go fight in that war. Who is my enemy? People I don't know in some far-away country, or the person in my face taking me by force away from my family? Definitely the latter. If he persists, I am well within my rights to defend myself against him, with extreme prejudice if necessary.

DC Bryan at Sierra Times - That's it! I'm heading to Florida! Mr. Bryan drives to Florida to join the protests against algorebachev. Why? Because of Lieberman's speech calling the protesters a mob. I pointed at this article because of the response Mr. Bryan got from an Arkansas cop who pulled him over for speeding. On hearing the purpose of his trip, the cop gave back his license and escorted them at 87MPH. Hehe. [sierra]

Ronald D. Rotunda at the Cato Institute - Using The Psychic Hotline To Decide Contested Elections: explains why having Johnny Carson's "The Great Carnack" decide the election outcome would be more rational than recount after recount specifically designed to materialize votes for algore. [market]
