The Inevitability Of REAL ID
M.R. Jarrell at Uncivil Defense - Indiana has already implemented REAL ID. This article explores the ramifications of that, a card in your pocket containing lots of information about you that can be scanned by anyone with the proper equipment. They're not saying yet whether the scanning equipment will be RFID, but if it is, any Tom with a hairy dick will be able to grab your information whenever you're in range. And you'll need high technology to fool them, too: [clairefiles]
The licenses themselves will include digital information that cannot be seen but can be scanned by machines to ensure authenticity. Davis said that if the license or photo is tampered with, law enforcement, airport personnel, store clerks or others with the machines would be able to tell.
I'm not interested in
I'm not interested in "defensive" measures (wrapping the card in foil to prevent unauthorized people from reading the tag); I'm interested in destroying the RFID chip without obvious damage to the card.
Maybe static electricity in high doses? Firm, well-placed shot with a hammer?
Understood
Understood. Problem is, if you have the card, the people that require it will either deny you services or throw you in jail if they find you've tampered with it.
Right. Which is why careful
Right. Which is why careful work is called for. Plausible deniability.
Fried chips...
Find out what frequency the RFID chip uses, then rig an amped-up transmitter to overload the chip at close range until the microcircut is shot...
Thanks to the NAIDS the feds are cooking up, I have to figure out a way to either kill implanted chips or dig around in live critters to find the little buggers. The former would seem a little less messy.
Yes, it does; but that isn't
Yes, it does; but that isn't a workable solution when someone official wants to see your ID.
