UK Channel 4 looks at global warming

Silver at Wolfesblog - this coming Thursday, March 8, UK Channel 4 (not associated with the BBC) will air The Global Warming Swindle, in which "an impressive roster of scientists - experts in climatology, oceanography, meteorology, environmental science, biogeography and paleoclimatology - argue that global warming proponents have confused cause and effect. Atmospheric CO2 is rising because the oceans are warming, releasing gigatons of formerly dissolved gas." From the film summary: [claire]

The film brings together the arguments of leading scientists who disagree with the prevailing consensus that a 'greenhouse effect' of carbon dioxide released by human activity is the cause of rising global temperatures.

Instead the documentary highlights recent research that the effect of the sun's radiation on the atmosphere may be a better explanation for the regular swings of climate from ice ages to warm interglacial periods and back again.

The film argues that the earth's climate is always changing, and that rapid warmings and coolings took place long before the burning of fossil fuels. It argues that the present single-minded focus on reducing carbon emissions not only may have little impact on climate change, it may also have the unintended consequence of stifling development in the third world, prolonging endemic poverty and disease.

The BBC looks at global warming

Submitted by napolean4 on Fri, 09 Mar 2007 21:22:57 GMT

Channel 4, which is broadcasting the "Global Warming Swindle" is not owned by the BBC. The station was established to provide a fourth television service to the UK that would break the duopoly of the BBC's two established television services and the single commercial broadcasting network, ITV. Mr. Bill St Clair is either misinformed, or he lies to give the documentary more credence by attributing it to the BBC. Please note that one of Channel 4 claims to fame is the broadcasting of the first UK 'Masturbate-a-thon'. I guess they like their audience to masturbate not only with their genitalia, but also with their brain. The documentary is based on the same old conspiracy theory that we’ve been hearing from the denial industry for the past ten years, and it carries as much scientific weight as the contention that the Twin Towers were brought down by missiles. The program’s thesis revolves around the deniers’ favorite canard: that the “hockey-stick graph” showing rising global temperatures is based on a statistical mistake made in a paper by the scientists Michael Mann, Raymond Bradley and Malcolm Hughes. What it will not be showing is that their results have now been repeated several times by other scientists using different statistical methods; that the paper claiming to have exposed the mistake has been comprehensively debunked and that the lines of evidence used by Mann, Bradley and Hughes are just a few among hundreds demonstrating that 20th century temperatures were anomalous.

The decision to commission this program seems even odder when you discover who is making it. In 1997, the director, Martin Durkin, produced a very similar series for Channel 4 called “Against Nature”, which also maintained that global warming was a scam dreamt up by environmentalists. It was riddled with hilarious scientific howlers. More damagingly, the only way in which Durkin could sustain his thesis was to deceive the people he interviewed and to edit their answers to change their meaning. Following complaints by his interviewees, the Independent Television Commission found that “the views of the four complainants, as made clear to the interviewer, had been distorted by selective editing” and that they had been “misled as to the content and purpose of the program when they agreed to take part.” Channel 4 was obliged to broadcast one of the most humiliating primetime apologies it has ever made.

"The Great Climate Swindle" on YouTube

Submitted by Bill St. Clair on Sat, 10 Mar 2007 11:31:29 GMT

Thank you for the information that Channel 4 is not owned by the BBC. I was only passing on Silver's information. As for the movie's thesis, they do not deny that global warming is happening, but they claim that it is caused by solar activity, not by rising carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.

"The Great Climate Swindle" is available in six parts from the YouTube page for onebush333. Not sure this is the same movie, but it sounds like it. I'll be watching it as soon as my downloads complete. Here are the links to parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6.

The YouTube videos ARE the Channel 4 show.

The YouTube videos ARE the Channel 4 show. But not all of it is there yet. Hopefully, onebush333 will upload the rest soon.

By the way, everybody knows that the World Trade Center towers weren't taken down by missiles. It was explosives planted inside the buildings, like every other intentional demolition.

Such is the tone of outrage

Such is the tone of outrage that one could be forgiven for thinking that this was written by one of those in the climate change industry with a vested interest. Another environmental jihadist, like one of those referred to by the programme itself...
