Andrew Kaluza at Students for Liberty - Gary Cola, an amateur metallurgist and entrepreneur, has developed a new process for hardening steel, which results in a metal that is harder and more ductile than titanium at 1/10 the cost. The process is also hugely faster than conventional heat treating, 10 seconds vs. a few hours to a few days. It's called Bainite Steel. He's currently working at licensing it to steel manufacturers.
