One Drug to Shrink All Tumors

Williams at Science Magazine - Irving Weissman of the Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California, discovered a decade ago that the CD47 protein protects cancerous leukemia cells from the immune system. Blocking CD47 with an antibody removes that protection. His team has recently discovered that blocking CD47 removes the protection from many kinds of cancer. In mice. Human trials are next.
