Kennedy's Death Raises Issues of Succession
Sarah Wheaton at The New York Times - in 2004, when John Kerry was running for president, democrats in the Massachusetts legislature changed their law, voting to deny then governor Mitt Romney, a republican, the authority to name a successor in the US Senate should Kerry win. Before then, the Massachusetts governor could appoint a temporary successor until an election could be held. That change is biting those same democrats now, when they want their democrat governor to appoint a democrat replacement for Ted Kennedy. How ironic!
