Never believe anything until it has been officially denied -- Claud Cockburn

From kaba:

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. -- Thomas Jefferson, quoting Cesare Beccaria in On Crimes and Punishment

Amber Eden - Single Serving - Amber is working hard at staying in a positive space. Sounds like it's working. Al-hamdu lillah! Nice picture of her. Better one here at loony dot org.

I don't currently read blogs that are negative. I'm doing my best to stay in a positive space myself. This isn't an ad for "positive blogging". Blogs are great places to vent.

fnfal.com has lots of information about "the right arm of the free world," the Fabrique Nationale - Fusil Automatique Leger (Light Automatic Rifle). You currently have to go to the old index to get to most of the site. They haven't yet hooked up the left-hand column of the new front page. Worth a visit if you're into battle rifles.

Thomas L. Knapp at free-market.net - Freedom Book of the Month for February, 2002: Mr. Knapp chose for this month's book the new tome from Claire Wolfe and Aaron Zelman: The State vs. The People. [jpfo]

The modern authoritarian police state isn't built. It grows organically, feeding on the fears of a society and transforming those fears into incremental, concrete measures that, over time, become tyranny. Fear of crime is exploited and turned into "gun control" measures. Fear of terrorism is exploited and turned into demands for identification schemes. Fear of drugs is exploited and turned into no-knock raids, mandatory minimum sentencing and "war."

If you're beginning to see the United States in this description, you're not alone. As J.D. Tuccille puts it, the book provides "compelling evidence that the 'free world' increasingly maintains only the facade of liberty, cloaking an iron-fisted reality."

We The People - Hearing Results - a summary of the results of last week's Truth-in-Taxation hearing. Contains links to Bob Schulz' opening remarks, Sherry Jackson's closing remarks, and an order page for the video or CD-ROM. You can order a free transcript via email here.

The Lie Behind the Lie Detector exposes the complete fraud of the polygraph test. I haven't read it. [grabbe]

Ron Paul at The Federal Observer - The Disturbing Trend Toward Federal Police - and how! [kaba]

It is important to recognize that our federal constitution lists only three federal crimes, namely counterfeiting, treason, and piracy on the high seas. The founding fathers never envisioned a federal police force, knowing that such a force would trample on the right of each state to enact and enforce its own criminal laws. Hence there is no provision for the creation of a general federal police force in the enumeration of congressional powers. Furthermore, the 10th Amendment explicitly reserves the general police power to the states individually.
